"Tears on Red", oil.

"Tears on Red", 12 x 12"
Oil on Ampersand Gessobord.

One more in my new for 2013 series of Still Life Flemish-style paintings in Oil.
This painting was more about contrast and play of light, what gave me opportunity
to play with limited pallet. I'm pretty sure I'm done with this one now.

"By the creek", pastel.

"By the creek", 12 x 12"
Pastel on Ampersand Pastelbord.

This summer I have full intentions to dedicate more time to my pastels.
This is the first (for a while) new work in my 12x12" series depicting waterways.
I believe this is called "Fishing Creek" what is just about as coming name for Pennsylvania,
as "Deer Run" for a street. This creek is only few miles away from our house
and actually does have some great testing trout there. I always wanted to paint it,
but this is a first time when I actually did it.

Pet Portrait in pastel.

"Abby", 12 x 9" on  paper.

This is an Abby, she is a Norwich Terrier girl. My dear friend Christina, Abby's owner,
asked me last to pint her a picture of her "baby". I decided it will be a good reason
to try out my new pastel pencils and my Canson paper what I was hording in my art attic.
This is very popular paper for pastels ac charcoal, but I normally ignore it,
because of my love to play with all sorts of underpainting.
However for Abby it was a good choice - simple, yet - delicate.
I'm pleased with result and it was nice to take "vacation" away from my Oils.
Most impotently - my friend is very pleased with this portrait too.

Playing with pastels.

Last few days I just had to try  my new pastels, what ended up in me getting
out my Plein Air box with field pallet (can't do without sticks).
I finished 3 small works, very quickly and was pleased with all 3 of those.
One above is 8x10" on Pastelbord. That was a place where we painted
with group of fellow pastel artists in 2011 during our workshop with Richard McKinley.
Somewhere outside of State College, PA.
This painting is available at Daily Paint Works in auction format.

One above is my attempt to do something on Canson.
I do not normally work on this paper, but I wanted to test
my new Caran D'Ache pastel pencils... and they did fine.
This one is listed on Daily Paint Works auction as well.

Lastly small 5x7" painting on Green Ampersand Pastelbord.
This was all about Birches and under-painting.
I did under-painting with Caran D'Ache Supracolor pencils
and then turned it into the watercolor wash (above).
Nothing much, nothing fancy, just what I wanted.
I finished it with some pastels and pastel pencils, working mostly from negative space.
A bit rusty after long brake, but I'm pleased and looking forward to more.
Mean while this one is up for bid too. Check it out, if interested.

News from Switzerland.

This morning our mail-lady presented me with two big boxes.
At first I was very surprised - we didn't expect any deliveries...
But then I looked on a sender's label and realized
that it was my shipping from Geneva.
Caran D'Ache of Switzerland send me some samples
of their art products.
It was a "Thank You gift" from the company.
At the end of 2012 I was contacted by Caran D'Ache and asked to use
one of my Works-In-Progress images for their new product brochure
on one of my favorite brands on Oil pastels - Neopastel.

It was very generous gift. I received 48 colors set of Neopastels,
box of 40 my beloved Supracolor pencils
and new for American market pastel cubes and pencils.
(I have to admit - I'm already in LOVE with those pencils!)

I also received some brochures, including one with image of my art work,
what company will be using for the next several years
as educational material included with their Oil Pastel set.

I feel like a little kid on Christmas morning, unwrapping those boxes.
It sure made my day!
