Latest finished piece, painted 80% Plein Air and finalized in my studio from memory.
Beautiful Dunes of Cape, full of Sunlight and movement.
This was outside of Dennis Port, MA. I loved it there, one day I'll be back.

Fall at New England... with some pastels!

We with my friend Claire Barnwell just returned from our trip to CT,
where we were painting and enjoying beauty of New England's Fall.
I ended up with only 4 paintings this time, but brought
much reference materials to play with.
We were blessed with wonderful weather,
met some of my old friends, and I was happy to introduce m
my friend to my favorite Pastel-Guru, Richard McKinley.
We had wonderful time, many adventures and
some repeated misfortunes with our car...
What didn't prevent us from painting.
I will be posting more photos with the time, as I get to it.

Camp Hill Plein Air 2015.
Regardless of busy schedule I managed somehow to find "Me time"
and work on my Plein Air entry to Camp Hill Plein Air 2015 competition.
Here I am - fist painting day, painting by the creek at Fort Hunter.
Needless to say - this is my favorite painting spot, what I visited more then once.
I never get tired of it, place is just beautiful, yet - quiet enough.
If You lucky enough to get there on a sunny day - light effects on a water are
totally mesmerizing... This is what I was after -
capturing play of light and color on a water surface.
Easy to say, not that easy to accomplish, considering the fact -
not only light is changing by the minute,
but also water surface going through constant changes...
Now it calm and then it has ripples from the wind or current or small animal seeming across,
and as water surface changes, so do reflections...
I have to say it was real fun to work like this...
chasing constant change in hope to capture it - beautifully.
The other challenging factor was a fact that I decided to get out of my "Plein Air comfort zone"
and for once paint bigger. Normally I would work in 8 x 10 or 9 x 12" format.
This time I went with 11 x 14", what is almost twice bigger
compare to my "normal" Plein Air paintings.
It took me two sessions to finish this work, but it is done
and I'm happy with what I have here.

...and tomorrow I have a free day and weather should be nice and I'll be back
to more painting!...

"Hillside", pastel.
"Hillside", 8 x 10", Pastel on U-art 400.
Today some of our SVPAP gathered together to paint at Lindenwood.
Place is gorgeous, people are very friendly, weather is great,
just add some pastels to it and You have a perfect day!
This is my today's painting effort.
I was captured by play of light and a shadows on a hillside
and painted my story of it.
Had truly great time in it! Looking forward to go back
one of upcoming weekends.

"Dune-Dancers." Pastel, Plein Air.
Last week I spent painting at Cape Cod with group of pastel painters
mentored by Richard McKinley.
It was a time before the tourist season is starting, so we had very little interruption
by whoever was showing at our painting sites... What were beautiful.
This is one of the painting what I did on location.
Most of us were staying right on the parking lot of one of local beaches.
We were surrounded by water, dunes, blooming Beach Plum bushes
and some not-invited personalities what were trying to
hand out some of brochures of religious nature...
(We all know well those polite guys who usually working in small groups of 2 or 3,
always neatly dressed and just a bit too sweet)
Soon their brave troopers gave up on us and move away to some place other....
We were continuing working on our paintings and enjoyed the scenery.
Richard did his demo later in a day and ironically we ended up
painting the same subject, what was a group of pine trees on a top of the dunes.
After I finished working on my painting I decided not to do another,
but went around with my camera hunting for more beautiful views.
Now as I'm back home it will be more paintings coming.

"Quiet Waters", Pastel.
Last several days I was lucky to be a part of unique event sponsored
by Pastel Society of America.
Our group flew to Mexico to get together in San Miguel de Allende
and paint together with my favorite pastel-guru - Richard McKinley.
In 2008 UNESCO recognized San Miguel de Allende and
the neighboring Sanctuary of Jesus de Atotonilco
as World Heritage of Humanity sites and we had
an opportunity to work on both locations.
Some of those paintings I'll post later, meanwhile I want to share one I did
in local botanical garden what is known there as
"Jardín Botánico"

This week I was lucky to participate in workshop with Master-Painter
Albert Handell. Weather was not pleasant, so we had to combine
work on location and in studio. This piece was done 90% Plein Air
and finished after I returned back home.
We all learned a lot during this 4 days session. I hope to be able
to repeat this wonderful experience.

"Spring House" is accepted into "Keystone-National Work on Paper".
Sometime ago I believe I already posted this little painting,
however I would like to share it again, as part of upcoming
"Keystone-National Work on Paper" exhibition.
I'm truly honored to have this little (8 x 10") gem juried in,
because of its Plein Air nature. Finally I'm starting to feel
that my Plein Air paintings starting catch up to my studio works,
or maybe even exceed those studio pieces.
Indeed out of my two submissions for "Keystone" Plein Air piece
took over my other studio piece..
Thank You to the Juror Laurin McCracken for
accepting "Spring House" into this beautiful show.

I didn't post anything for a while, due to be really busy painting
together with group of very talented pastel artist somewhere
out there in Vermont. Few people around, quaet settings,
no cell phone reception... PERFECT Plein Air location
every painter can only dream about....
there is a more to it, but I'll share this "more" part later...

More Plein Air painting!.. "Spring House", pastel.

Yesterday we got to paint on beautiful old farm somewhere in the middle of nowhere...
I want to tell Thank You to Cecelia Layden for such a wonderful treat. I love it there.
Even I was planning to paint on Wednesday, my husband convinced me to go on Tuesday,
I have another planes, but worked around it..It was great we made it there, because
next day paint out was canceled due to the weather issues.
Work I did there might go down to history as "last painting of Wallis Belgium Mist" I ever did.
This wonderful paper is still out of stock everywhere due to production issues.

Gettysburg 2014, Day 3. "Plum Run".
"At The Plum Run"

Second day of Gettysburg Paint Out will be remembered as total Wash Out.
I was going to participate in Quick Draw event, but it was just no way to work
with my pastels at downpour we got there...
So I was hoping to catch up on my painting on Friday...
...and this is how lovely our Friday drive was!...
Not much expectations. I was getting ready to paint IN my car,
if it what I have to do this day...
When we arrived to the park, it was no more rain AND plenty of people.
Even several media guys wandering around,
taking pictures and recording us painting.
Colors were outstanding out there... I totally enjoyed myself,
but would be even more happy, if it would be just not that hot!..
But we made it works somehow. At list it was no more rain.
Myself and several more painters worked at Plum Run this afternoon
and everybody did beautiful job. It was hard not to get inspired!
...and then of course some of our friends stopped by too... what was great -
we didn't see each other for a while and Carol's family several of
our schnauzers... But they didn't have any today with them and neither did we...
it was way to hot for the dogs.

I finished my painting and framing right on place to the frame I had ready for yesterday's
Quick Draw event. On a way home I dropped both my paintings
to the Gettysburg College Alumni House, where they will be a part
of Plein Air exhibition.
Many paintings what are displayed there were painting during this event.

Camp Hill Plein Air... Day 3.
Day #3. Not that nice on the morning. But by noon - window of opportunity -
rain stopped and we even got some sun shine!
Getting on a road with all my pastel boxes, easel and things...
This time - heading to Camp Hill itself and finding myself nice looking house to paint.
Above - value sketch wiath alcohol wash on sanded paper.
After I set my values, it is tie for color. Trying to keep it simple and loose...
have no idea if rain is about to return here any given moment,
therefore getting my idea down, so I can finish it any other place... if I have to.
Surprisingly - no rain till later in the evening.
Basically finished all on location in about 2 hours. Happy!

"Next Level Pastels" Minnesota 2012. Chapter I.
Just like I mentioned before, his month was filled with impotent events,
but this trip was something I was especially looking forward to..
I had wonderful opportunity to join Richard McKinley
and his mentored group of advanced students in "Next Level Pastels"
Plein Air workshop in Minnesota.
It would be very hard to pick up more impressive location. Majestic lake Superior,
rushing rivers, beautiful rock formations and waterfalls - we were surrounded by all those wanders.
Not to mention the forest... what reminding me forest of my native country -
white birch, aspens, lot of light.
With all this in mind it was very hard to choose what to paint.
I decided not to attempt come home with some finished paintings,
but rather dedicate my time to in-deep sketching process and learning techniques.
In this post I would like to share some of my works on different rock formations.
None of those is really finished, but all those studies
had to offer something interesting and I truly enjoyed working on it.
