Another silk scarf.

Just a snap shot of my new work in progress -

one more what I do for my dear friend, Karen.

Karen owns a bunch of those adorable rascals,

called "Australian Cattle Dogs".

I love those guys (almost as much as my schnauzers).

This will be a scarf with portrait of her dogs.

Something special what she will not be able to get any other way...

Much more work to do and I enjoy this work.

Poppies in silk... almost finished!

One more update on my poppy painting...

The painting part is done. Tomorrow evening I'll steam it and then

it will be truly finished.

More progress with those poppies!... Silk painting.

Last night I steamed my poppies, what set colors in

and now I have permanent underpainting.

I leaf along background and treated flowers with

flow-stopping agent. As soon it dried, I finished all details.

You can see the difference in blocked in side (on the right) vs 

finished one (on the left). After second side will be finished,

this piece will be steamed one more time and my work with it will be done...

Probably will take me two more days. Stay tuned!

Silk Poppies in progress.

Another update on my silk scarf with poppies.

Now it is all blocked in and ready for steaming.

I'm going to do second touch-up after that,

 but mean while... keeping my fingers crossed

that steam will do good job...

More updates will be coming in a day or two.

More silks in progress.

This week I'm working on two silk pieces at once.

One is actually sold already, even it is not yet finished.

Those are the same design I used before, but with some modifications.

I'm posting a fragment of one of those works. Tomorrow it is going to steamer,

as well as second piece, what is almost done.

Keeping my fingers crossed on both... hope they turn out beautifully!

"Dune-Dancers." Pastel, Plein Air.

 Last week I spent painting at Cape Cod with group of pastel painters

mentored  by Richard McKinley.

It was a time before the tourist season is starting, so we had very little interruption

by whoever was showing at our painting sites... What were beautiful.

This is one of the painting what I did on location.

Most of us were staying right on the parking lot of one of local beaches.

We were surrounded by water, dunes, blooming Beach Plum bushes

 and some not-invited personalities what were trying to 

hand out some of brochures of religious nature...

(We all know well those polite guys who usually working in small groups of 2 or 3,

always neatly dressed and just a bit too sweet)

Soon their brave troopers gave up on us and move away to some place other....

We were continuing working on our paintings and enjoyed the scenery.

Richard did his demo later in a day and ironically we ended up

painting the same subject, what was a group of pine trees on a top of the dunes.

After I finished working on my painting I decided not to do another,

but went  around with my camera hunting for more beautiful  views.

Now as I'm back home it will be more paintings coming.

"Fire and Ice", work in project.

Last week was busy and I didn't work much on any of my art projects.

However, now I'm back to another silk painting.

I call it :"Fire and Ice", as it is going to be a portrait of white and red rose.

It is still in progress, about half-way done.  I think I'm just going to frame this one.

"Who is that pretty Girl?.." Pastel.

My latest schnauzer-project. Pastel pencil drawing on French paper.

This painting/drawing was very time consuming and will be not for sale.

 I started this work from careful drawing with using of ingenious grid method

 introduced to me by my friend, very talented watercolor artists Larry Lombardo.

This is none-traditional grid what somewhat speeding things up with initial drawing.

I'm starting my drawing of general outlines with graphite pencil

and then finishing it with pastel pencil. All grid lines have to go.

When it comes to all those small pretty flowers, there is no way 

and need to copy those with using of grid. I just had those drawn free-hand.

After m,y drawing was finished in pastel pencil,

I did alcohol wash over it, to make things more soft.

It also embeds pigment to the paper.

 Next step - pastel pencils. I work in my very favorite brand Caran D'Ache.

Those are really amazing pencils, what I truly love and enjoy.

When I finished working with pencils, I did some dry-brush blending

 where needed and finished this work with few touches of soft pastels.

Voila!

This is my first work in new for 2014/2015 schnauzer series.

"Pas de trois", Oil Pastel, WIP.

 "Pas de trois" , 10 x 8", Oil Pastel.

Mounted U-art 280.

 I did this painting free-handed, no precise drawing whatsoever in 

Caran D'Ache Supracolor pencils.

 I worked by sections turning pencil drawing into watercolor wash.

 Above - finished underpainting with some hint of  Oil Pastel.

 Above - finished Oil Pastel blocking.

And finished painting of course.

A bit different for me - I had plenty of fun with background

on this one and usually background is the part I mostly neglect.

Touch of Gold. Pastel, WIP.

I just started another pastel painting of another scene from Longwood Gardens.

When I saw it first I was memorized with those golden reflections and

knew immediately - I'm going to paint this place.

I still have some nice frames in 11 x 14" size and going to utilize one of those...

Therefore I had to start from appropriate size of board... I have white Pastelbord

in 11 x 14, but wanted to work on mid-value support. Therefore before I started

with my sketch, board was toned in sepia with fluid Acrylic.

For my sketch I used Carbotello pastel pencil.

When done with sketching part, I turned it into wash with alcohol.

Next step - application of dry pastel.

Another sectional wash over dry pastel with brush and water.

... and more of pastel!...

So far so good. Idea is - to finish this work sometime soon

and submit to the Gallery as part of "Garden Collection"

with two more freshly framed pieces.

Beautiful day today here in PA. I finished this little painting and went

to spend some time with two my horses. My friend's farm is a dream-land.

Some of my very best memories comes from there... Just happy.

Finally I had time to get back to this piece and finish it. It is all bight and shiny and so had to dry before I can get any good picture of it. Still... it is finished. And I'm not sure what I'll be up to next.. I have two nice 8x8" cradled Gessobords... Maybe I need to thing what I can do with those...

"Trinity", WIP, first update.

Today I'm starting with Oil Pastel application. Trying to keep

place organized and quantity of paints/tools to the minimum.

Of course monitor is one of main tools. beside of that I need

selection of colors I'm going to use, some brushes and solvent.

This time I'm working with Gamsol.

 Above - Oil Pastel and solvent application of background.

Also - work on vase.

Nothing is done with flowers yet.

Below - fragment of painting at this stage.

On my last picture today I demonstrate beginning of Oil Pastel application

on my flowers. I normally start from my darkest darks and brightest brights

to establish value relationships and make my pick of just right pastel sticks.

"Trinity", WIP.

"Trinity" is my newest work-in-progress for upcoming 2013 Oil Pastel Society show.

Florals are naturally making one of my very favorite painting subjects, especially when 

it come to Oil Pastels. But normally I do concentrate on flower itself us my main subject.

This work is different and brings in play much more elements of classical Still Life.

I'm paying just us much attention to the vase, as to those flowers

and this is something slightly different for me... but I do enjoy the process.

This painting is done (again!) on Ampersand Pastelbord, my support of choice

for most of my Oil Pastels. Very durable, easily accepting all sorts of solvents and

possible painting corrections. This stage You see here is an underpainting done

watercolor pencils what then turned into wash. Working with washes gives me ability 

to preserve most of "tooth" on sanded surface and make application of Oil pastels 

more easy to control, because of better adhesion. 

I'm finished with my underpainting now and ready to start working with pastels.

Looking forward to this evening, when I'll have time to start...

"Radiance". Work in Progress, oil.

Yes, I'm started working one one more "Flemish style" traditional Oil painting. And this one is another Hibiscus. Hibiscuses are not my favorite flowers, however they somehow turned to be some of my very favorite floral subjects. Maybe just because those are spectacular to show play of light and shadows...

Never-less I'm working on one more of those and up to date mostly done with underpainting stage. it will be more likely one more session to finalize it. Then I'll need to make sure it properly dried and can start with color glazing. Beautiful process, almost similar to meditation. I truly enjoy it.

meanwhile this is drying I'm going to do something not that technically complicated...

Different support. I didn't work on Wallis for a while and enjoying it now.

Will take few more sessions to finish it, but I'm not in a hurry.

No deadlines coming up of any sort. I can simply paint and enjoy.
