3 days of watercolor with Larry.

Last 3 days I spent in Mechanicsburg Art Center playing with watercolors. 

This was a second time when I got to study with one of my all-time

favorite watercolor artists/teachers - Larry Lombardo.

Last time we saw each other about 3 years ago. It was great to see him again

refresh old stuff and learn a few new things what he recently came up with

(Larry did change his pallet and color mixing system somewhat,

compare to what I knew from before).

We had wonderful time and ended up with beautiful little paintings of this lovely young lady. 

Larry will be teaching another class in January 2014.

Everybody who is interested hurry up to jump in!

As for me... I may conceder painting something in watercolor over this winter,

just need to get those new Larry's secret colors and I'll be good to go!

Just need to do something more challenging... and different.

Because I didn't work with portraits forever, this is what I would like to do this time... for change.

Not sure if this is going to be the final version, or just study for another work, we will see, how bad it will be progressing. I'm alright with it for now, but being a portrait I need all the help I can get with this one. 

So far I'm done with drawing in general, enlargement and background under-painting... just to set a mood. Under-painting is watemedia this time, I will be finishing it in pastel... let see what happen.

Portrait workshop with Greg Biolchini 

The last two days of workshop were demo of Portrait painting Greg did for us and then everybody was heaving "fun" with own projects. 

Two beautiful projects (our models) had enough courage to put up with all of us trying to do our best what at beginning was looking pretty scary (at my own case anyway!). Once again, I didn't finish my work, I seriously need more time and more practice. However it was a great experience, I learned a lot and our group had some very good time straggling all together. It was real fun, even all it was - bunch f hard work for everybody.

Veronika in Oil Pastel. Update #1.

Worked some more with my oil pastel painting of Veronika.
It is my first try with Oil pastel and U-art and it is my first try with Oil Pastel and portrait... therefore it IS complicated. So far I love her nose, hate her eyes and all over appearance is more like doll-like Cherry-2000 at my opinion.. But I learned a lot about what I'm doing right and wrong and after I'm done with this painting I'm pretty confident, next one will be easier to do.

I finished one Veronika and started another one - this one will be in Oil Pastel on U-art.

I think it is my first ever portrait (not a sketch) what I will attempt to do with OPs. I like it so far and like U-art. Very durable paper and feels just right for my Holbein OPs.

Same subject, different media for change. One more portrait of Veronika, this time in soft pastels. Still need more work done to it, but maybe this week I can finish it, so far my oil painting is drying. It will be nice to have both works finshed soon. Ialready have few other ideas :-)

I have some progress here, but not too much and I'll be taking all my time with this work.

It will be finished when it finished, even it migh take a while... Just like my Koi Pond! :-)

Here we go... I started on actual watercolor part (scary, scary!..) It didn't go too well at home, somebody or something constantly takes me away from my painting and I can't concentrate.

Therefore today I painted it at Larry Lombardo's place. (Thank You, Larry! Probably I'm finally starting getting rid of my fear of watrcolors. I wish someday I'll be able to paint just as well as you do, I'll be really comforable with my brushes then!)

New portrait project. WIP. Update #1

Yesterday I finished my drawing and shadowing of Veronika's portrait. Also - started working on watercolor part. That part so far looks scary to me. But I'm going to post it here soon anyway. For right now I better go to my Oil Pastel floral work. Need to finish that one first.

This is my latest portrait drawing. Actually it will be a watercolor after I'm done with it, but I may try the same subject in oil and pastel. Pretty good for practicing.

Once again it is Veronika, my niece. Portrait from my own photo reference that survived latest hard drive disaster... All best photos are gone. I should be made, I guess, but I better just move on with my stuff that be upset over something what is not here any more.

"Madonna and her schnauzer" Update #2.WIP

Second update on this painting. It is coming along nice and slow. I think I had to go bigger then I did and probably wit another color of background. Somewhat too much contrast with flesh tones. But... just let see, what could be done about it.

Here is surprise - I had a time not just to finish my drawing, but also have it transferred on La Carte and even try some color on it. I again have a feeling that I don't have right browns, but will have to figure out something. So much for today, I have to work some more on another drawing, since I have a lesson tomorrow and that one has to be ready, this one on other hand may wait as long as it takes.

This is going to be interesting. My new project is a self-portrait with one of my favorite dogs -

Shazzam OfOz Basic Beauty (Basya). I had a time of my life putting this graphic together.

It will be another pastel on La Carte. Next step - transfering.

Last days before Christmas...

Last days before Christmas in our house consisted of one big Chaos.

My new computer broke, my not so new car broke, our bank had some glitch, so my account looked scary and neighbor's van got stuck on our driveway, so nobody can get in and out. How about that ?!..

So... not much painting was going on. All I did some sketches on Canson (just to get rid of that paper). I adore brave people that can work with pastels on Canson. I'm not a one of them. All my sketches are intended for the trash, but I took a picture of it anyway...

And lastly and most impotently, Jim also participated in drawing and came up with this one you can see on very top of my post. It was glued with some Scotch tape to the gun box. Yes, sure, I got one more gun for my endless collection. This time - with my husbands art on it.

Portrait of Veronika.

This is a painting that is few month old. Actually this one is just got dry, because it is mostly oil (something what I DON'T like when I'm working with oils!). It is a portrait of my God Daughter, Veronika.

Originally I did her photoshoot and later painted one of her photos in Holbein Aqua-Duo. I like this painting of her for the reason that it is exactly how I see that girl - something slightly out of this World.
