Karen's scarf - fiished!

Look at all those Cattle Dogs!
Do not ask me... I do not know how many, as whole bunch of the
is wandering all over the background.
It was fun (and long!) project to paint.
But now I'm finished.

Another silk scarf.

Just a snap shot of my new work in progress -
one more what I do for my dear friend, Karen.
Karen owns a bunch of those adorable rascals,
called "Australian Cattle Dogs".
I love those guys (almost as much as my schnauzers).
This will be a scarf with portrait of her dogs.
Something special what she will not be able to get any other way...
Much more work to do and I enjoy this work.

"English Garden", Silk Painting.

"English Garden", 11 x 11"
Dupont silk dyes on Habotai 8 mm silk.

Happy to share my first silk work done with those famous French dies...
I hear a lot about those basically main things was -
not to be compared to anything else...
Guess what?.. That is right! Love that stuff! Totally amazing possibilities.
Need to mention, being a primary pastel artist, I'm lazy when it comes
to color mixing... However I only bough a primary pallet of French dyes
to try those out... So it was whole brand-new experience for me.
Yes, it CAN BE done only with 3 colors, however I would add black to it.
Little reminder:
I'll be instructing silk painting class at
Mechanicsburg Art Center and Gallery.
You still have some time to sign up!

More progress with those poppies!... Silk painting.

Last night I steamed my poppies, what set colors in
and now I have permanent underpainting.
I leaf along background and treated flowers with
flow-stopping agent. As soon it dried, I finished all details.
You can see the difference in blocked in side (on the right) vs
finished one (on the left). After second side will be finished,
this piece will be steamed one more time and my work with it will be done...
Probably will take me two more days. Stay tuned!

I'm going to do second touch-up after that,
but mean while... keeping my fingers crossed
that steam will do good job...
More updates will be coming in a day or two.

"Purple Irises", painting on silk.

Last night I finished my latest silk painting with purple Irises.
Still need to steam it one more time, but guess what?...
It will have to wait as today we managed to run out of propane!
If we will be lucky enough, we may have it delivered next week,
or I'll have to figure out something else...
Silk steaming is important, but so is making of food.
So we need that propane, of working hot plate,
or some other sort of kitchen solution.
Sooooo.... I can not fix those things at the moment, but I still can paint those!

Above - detail of Iris-painting on habotai.

Above - first stage of painting vs second stage.
You can clearly see the difference.
I think I enjoy working in two sessions to get the maximum
from my painting.
Hope You enjoy those!

More silk paintings in progress.

Today got to work a bit more on my silks.
Finished my rose painting (below). Now it waiting to be steamed.
Spent some time working on design of purple irises
for another scarf. Made it work and even blocked whole thing to the silk.
Tomorrow - steaming of roses and finishing of blocking those irises.
Looking forward to it... Should be very exiting!

"Fire and Ice", work in project.

Last week was busy and I didn't work much on any of my art projects.
However, now I'm back to another silk painting.
I call it :"Fire and Ice", as it is going to be a portrait of white and red rose.
It is still in progress, about half-way done.  I think I'm just going to frame this one.

Stay tuned!
Next week I'm going to post finished painting.

"Spring Joy". Silk painting.

My latest art project was another painting on silk.
I wanted to make something very different from just regular
"wall-hanging" piece of art, therefore I made it
to be wearable one.
I made one of my schnauzer-dog into my model
and added some bright tulips from the last spring photoshoot.
I love my dogs and I love my flowers!...
I combined both and got beautiful idea for this piece
what I called "Spring Joy".

This is a hand-painted with silk dyes one-of-a-kind scarf
decorated with spring blooms and pictures of dogs.
It is finished now and I only have to steam it in a day or two to set the colors.

I'm ready for the next project and ready for spring!

"Pure Innocence", silk painting.

"Pure Innocence", 12 x 9",
Silk, dyes.

I wanted to try it for a while, but never did...
Last month  I got bitten by creativity and finally purchased
modest set of American-made silk dyes and some fabric
to test it on... Plus of course some chemicals...
This is my #1 try out on silk painting.
Model for the "Innocence" was our Fox Terrier "Sasha",
who being a Fox Terrier is anything, but "innocent".
I enjoyed my painting session, no pressure of any sort,
just do it and let see what happens...
I still need to "fix" those dyes, so piece will be washable.
Didn't get a chance to do that yet.
Hopefully that will work out well....
Mean while I'm thinking of starting next piece.
