"Fireweed", pastel.

"Fireweed", 6 x 6" Pastel on Wallis.

This is #3 in my 6x6 pastel series. It was beautiful morning, when Jim and I went to see
Despetion Pass park in Washington and stopped at Rosario Beach.
Fog and light were creating amazing effects over land and water and I knew right away -
I will be painting it. "Fireweed" is the first of Rosario Beach paintings.
And below - reference photo of my inspiration and few others from the same place.. Enjoy!

New photoshoots of Orchids...

Those are Cymbidium orchids from my personal collection. They live in my grooming room, what  has the most windows in the house. I like to have plenty of light and they do too. I'm pretty sure this will be another subject for another painting and very much looking forward to it, but meanwhile I have to finish what i already started with oils and pastels. Perhaps tonight I'll be back to my painting.

Back to Ever Glades.

After "Blossom" premiere we had one more day in Florida and took full advantage of it by going to Ever Glades and Big Cypress National Wildlife Preserve.
OK, I again got sun burn in the middle February (will I ever learn?!)
But photos I brought home worth all the straggle. :-)

Another look at Wildwood.

I'm about to start another 12 x 12" landscape of Wildwood Lake sanctuary.
This is a reference I'm going to use. Already digitally modified to suit my needs. I'm going to start from some sketching and then work with watermedia underpainting. Then it will be time for pastels. Perhaps I can start on it this evening, if that very TV in the living room ever will go off.
And guess what?... few hours later mission is accomplished!

"From Above" Update.

"From Above" by Tatiana Myers

12 x 12". Pastel on Ampersand Museum Pastelboard.

Worked some more on my latest pastel. Really want to finish it, but always something getting on my way. One thing after another.
I can only hope after I will finish this painting, it will not look like one big confusing mess.

"From Above" by Tatiana Myers

"From Above" by Tatiana Myers
12 x 12". Pastel on Ampersand Museum Pastelboard.

I'm just soooo glad this day is over. What a mess! Vet appointments, doctors appointments, accidents, emergencies... I kind of  had enough of it for one day. I think I'm too tired to even hold my paints. There is a chance I even will go in bed before midnight, not way after such... However with all chaos I got some more painting done. I think it feels good?.. I think?... I can think?...
Can I ?...

"Waterway with Lilies" by Tatiana Myers.

"Waterway with Lilies" by Tatiana Myers
12 x 12". Pastel on Ampersand Pastel Board.

This is a picture I was hunting for several weeks this spring.. There is a place at Wildwood park where swampy marsh is meeting with open water covered with Water Lilies. Those pretty little things were staying closed every time I go to see them. But one day I got lucky. Place looked picture perfect and I took numerous reference photos and painter "Waterway" after one of those shots.
Gouache underpainting, mixed pastels and pastel pencils.

"Bridge at Fort Hunter" Pastel WIP.

"Bridge at Fort Hunter" by Tatiana Myers
12 x 12". Pastel on Ampersand Museum Pastelboard.

Today I started another pastel painting after our trip to Fort Hunter with our Plein Air group of artists.
Unfortunately I had no time to do Plein Air. Fortunately I had just enough time for some great looking reference photos.
This painting going to be a companion painting to "Lights and Reflections" and part of my show at 2-nd Floor Gallery. I'm generally thinking about working on series of painting "Creeks of Pennsylvania", and this is a very beginning of it.
So far I'm only done with underpainting in water-media, next step will be actual work with pastels. Very exiting!

Waterfall. HDR photo.

Waterfall. HDR photo by Tatiana Myers.

I'm so glad I finished counting of those endless tax receipts!... Had no time for painting but had time to play with software. This is my latest creation and I sort of like it!

"Lights and Reflections" Pastel. Finish.

"Lights and Reflections" by Tatiana Myers
12 x 12". Pastel on Ampersand Museum Pastelboard.

I finished "Lights and Reflections". Love this painting from the time when I just start working on reference to the time I call it done.
It is very special for me, probably just because I love that place.

"Lights and Reflections". Soft pastel WIP.

"Lights and Reflections" by Tatiana Myers
12 x 12". Pastel on Ampersand Museum Pastelboard.

This is going to be one more painting in my series of "lights and Reflections" of Cove Creek.
I started from Photoshopping of my reference photo up to the point that I'm totally in love with it. Then I did a light charcoal sketch and underpainting in gouache.
On this stage I'm starting with actual soft pastel.
For my firsl layers I'm using mostly Holbein and few other harder brands.
I love to work with this painting and very much looking forward to see how it progressing.

New Year photoshoot.

Little Church at Kinkora.

Too cold and winding for horse back riding or for Plein Air painting... Hunting is no good this season either, too bad, but true... So the only reason to get out there - with camera. Of course when you can make it, and so can your car (mine just returned back from the shop!)

We went out to my favorite creek today. Light was so-so, but we managed to get some useful shots. Pennsylvania at winter, how I see it. Enjoy!

Far away light. (Cove Creek again!) WIP

Ampersand Pastel board 11 x14 "

Mixed soft pastels.

Reference picture for this painting was taken from the middle of creek, when water was shallow and I had a chance to get across of it with my regular shoes. Camera was pointed toward waterfall, however you can not see the falls, just a reflection of light coming from it. Very pretty.

I have a mixed feeling from this painting, still not sure, if I'm going the right direction with it, but I'll try.

I started my first layer with charcoal and then mostly with Russian Yarka pastels, since I have two colors in my little set, that works for my advantage. Next layer is Holbeins, then - everything I have.

Before I started bigger painting, I did my try out for color pallet on La Carte.

I'm going to frame this one in dark mahogany Plein Air style frame to create an affect of tunnel from the dark to the light. I like it mostly so far, but few details. I think I sort of did too much with lights at the end, probably will have to modify it a little, the lesser at this point will be better at my opinion.

Florida Skys.

Skys of FL are like nothing else.

I never saw anything even similar at any other place.

I can talk a lot about it, but I can do better then that and just share with you what did I see  .

Everglades etc.

Today we went all the way down south till the end of the land and beginning of the waters.
My general idea was to show Irina all wanders of Everglades and also - to collect some reference
materials for future paintings. Two in one. Love it!

Trip was sort of long, but nice. However (surprise!), I have discovered that you can not see even half as much of wildlife around as we did few years ago during the winter... Plus, of course, all those bugs...
Not a big deal, but at winter I love Fl the best and when will be traveling here next time, I'll make sure that it is a winter!

Somewhere in Florida.

I'm back to one of my favorite places in FL - Hammock State Park of Sebring with my new camera. Unfortunatelly, it is too hot and not much you can see now. Animals are hiding, plants are not blooming, lot of bags everywhere... still pretty.

Hope to use some of new photos for future paintings. Here is a some of it :

Tomorrow we are heading for Everglades.
