ReplyDeleteLines are the roots. This kind of Orchids has a tendency to form air-born roots (even, if plant is potted). It does look pretty intriguing. Phalenopsys Orchids are known to do the same thing and many others. My oldest Phalenopsys has a roots about 2 feet long and we have to spray those with water mist to keep plant happy. Here is link for you to take a look. Those are not most spectacular roots, but you will get some idea.. :-)

Thanks Tatiana! I'm off to look! I learn something new every day and for that I am grateful! (I have never seen orchids in real life except in corsages.)
ReplyDeleteYou need to visit Orchid show, Sherry, you will be amazed with those plants. I had few of those for years now and this year expanded my collection to about 2 dozen or nearly so... most of them doing really well for me. I can not wait till fall when they should start blooming.
