"Breath of Light." Pastel.

"Breath of Light", 9 x 12"
Pastel on Multimedia-Artboard-Pastel panel.

Back to visions of Vermont. Just did this small studio version
with memories of our summer trip in my mind...
Painting is done with my Plein Air set of pastels,
watercolor underpainting,
Look like finally those multimedia panels started to work for me.
Took me a while, but I sort of starting to like those...
Maybe another painting?

"Arches", Pastel.

"Arches", 10 x 8", Pastel on Wallis.

This one was a painting I did during my first painting day in a city
of San Miguel De Allende.
We started nice and easy, but whole event turned into total chaos,
when cars and vans starting pulling to "El Jardin" - central square
of San Miguel where our group was working this day.
Turned out - crowd was gathering for movie shoot.
One of popular Mexican soap operas, what they call "Telenovela".
So we got to participate in sort of "Painting with the stars" event
without any fair warning.
Many bystanders were kicked out of the square by TV crew,
but they let us paint and worked things around...
What was indeed very nice, as bunch of foreigners with easels
definitely weren't part of the script.
I was working on my first painting in the most far corner in weak hope
it is safe place to be and I was dead wrong.
Long story short - I got to paint  right on camera
and my dear spouse had too much fun with that fact....
Regardless... I finished the painting.

Hard to believe, it was just week ago now,
when we are back in PA and buried in a snow...
It was too much fun!

"Shapes of City", pastel.

"Shapes of City". 9 x 6", pastel.

Pastel on mounted Wallis.

And one more piece from my San Miguel collection.
Started on location, blocked in, finished in studio.
Just one of many colorful doorways, so typical
for city of San Miguel De Allende.

"Quiet Waters", Pastel.

Last several days I was lucky to be a part of unique event sponsored
by Pastel Society of America.
Our group flew to Mexico to get together in San Miguel de Allende
and paint together with my favorite pastel-guru - Richard McKinley.

In 2008 UNESCO recognized San Miguel de Allende and
the neighboring Sanctuary of Jesus de Atotonilco
as World Heritage of Humanity sites and we had
an opportunity to work on both locations.

Some of those paintings I'll post later, meanwhile I want to share one I did
in local botanical garden what is known there as
"Jardín Botánico"
Enjoy!

"Quiet Waters", 8 x 10"
Pastel. Plein Air.

"Just Passting By..." 30 in 30, Day 5.

"Just Passing By..." 5 x 7"
Pastel on Canson "Touch"

As simple as Day 5 of 30 in 30 challenge.
Another attempt to work something out with Canson "Touch".
This is a painting of some site I took picture of,
during our trip to West few years ago. Not sure any more where it was,
but something Western and beautiful.
We were just passing by.

Check back for tomorrow's painting!

"Walkway to the Sky". 30 in 30, Day 4.

"Walkway to the Sky", 8 x 10",
Pastel on Canson Touch.

Day 4 of my 30 Pastels in 30 Days challenge.
So far so good, #4 is done. This is a study of Cape's Dunes...
Perhaps I'll do a bigger painting of those at later time.
This pastel was painted with Oil stain underpainting.
I still not completely sure, if I like this new surface or not.
I got a big piece of it as a gift from my students,
cut it on smaller pieces and experimenting now...
Still have few more.

30 Pastels in 30 Days. Day 2.

"Rhapsody in Purple."
4,5 x 6" Pastel on U-art sanded paper.

Second day of my participation in 30x30 painting challenge.
My goal is to work on small color/value studies (like this one)
and occasionally finish some bigger pieces if possible.
Painting #2 is very familiar to me subject,
I painted this reference before in both - oils and pastels.
However I didn't try this extreme reddish/purple palette.
I have to admire - I like it.
This work is  available at DPW auction.

Already looking forward to Day #3.
Need to find a good subject to play with.

Gold and Lace. 30 Paintings in 30 days. Day 1.

"Gold and Lace", 9 x 12", Pastel.

First painting for 2015! Dreams of summer in the middle of winter.
The winter we have this year is the one with no snow,
not very appealing for the eye... so I turned to the colors instead.
No snow for me, not yet anyway. Something is coming up
later this month and what is coming is NOT about the snow.
But Psssst!... It is not time yet  tell anybody  what is coming.
When it does, it will be posted here.. Guaranteed!

Also... for the first time I'll attempt to stay up with
30 paintings in 30 days challenge hosted by  Leslie Saeta...
Not sure how well it will go considering my plans for January,
but we all will see at the end of month what happened with it.

"Gold and Lace" is currently offered at DPW auction.
