"Cove Creek" in Oil. Finished.

"Lights and Reflections" by Tatiana Myers
11 x 14". Oil on Masonite.

This is a finished look of my work. I wish I would know from beginning how to handle this support, I would have done it better. But I know it now, so it is all right. It does have a lot of light and it is a best part I like about this painting and my reference photo too.

"Cove Creek" in Oil. Update #2

I returned to another painting session of Cove Creek. First layer of oil is nearly dry. Second glaze goes on much easier. I'm not so upset with this work anymore and probably have even chance to finish it... not in a trash can. Anyhow it will take few more sessions before I can call it finished. I'm playing with very limited colors here (about 9, how I think), but looks like it working for this painting.

New portrait project. WIP. Update #2

"Veronika" Watercolor 8 x 10"

Here we go... I started on actual watercolor part (scary, scary!..) It didn't go too well at home, somebody or something constantly takes me away from my painting and I can't concentrate.
Therefore today I painted it at Larry Lombardo's place. (Thank You, Larry! Probably I'm finally starting getting rid of my fear of watrcolors. I wish someday I'll be able to paint just as well as you do, I'll be really comforable with my brushes then!)

"water Lilly" Oil Pastel WIP. Update #5.

"Water Lily" by Tatiana Myers.
Oil Pastel on Masonite. 16 x 20"

I'm practically done with first layer of pastel. Now I'm facing all small nuances of painting. It is getting very interesting and very complicated. I need all the creativity and all the patience. The question would be: "Do I have enough of it ?.."

"Water Lily" Oil Pastel. Update #4.

"Water Lily" by Tatiana Myers.
Oil Pastel on Masonite. 16 x 20"
Worked some more on my painting - mostly on greens. I like it much better now. I starting look how I want it to look like. Still - I have a problem with that very first leaves I tried to paint over acrylics... Will have to think about it.

"Water Lily" Oil pastel. Update #3.

"Water Lily" by Tatiana Myers.
Oil Pastel.16 x 20" Masonite.

Tonight I did a big mistake, that looks to me worked to my advantage... I took the wrong solvent for my Oil Pastels... Results are beautiful and I think I will be able to make all that fine lines just fine!... Right mistake at the right time!... For once.

"Water Lily" Oil Pastel. WIP. Update #2.

"Water Lily" by Tatiana Myers.
Oil Pastel.16 x 20" Masonite.

I'm mostly finished with petals and starting cover my background. Partially I'm using Neocolor-II Wax Pastel form Caran D'Ache for my underpainting on this stage... Fast and easy.
At the same time I'm trying (once again!) to figure out my framing option none of such I like. Oh, well, will find something what will work, I still have time. After all I don't have this size of glass either.

"Water Lily" Oil Pastel WIP. Update #1.

"Water Lily" by Tatiana Myers. Oil Pastel.
16 x 20" Masonite.

Next update on my water lily. I'm mostly working on the central part of the flower right now and some petals around. It looks OK, but I do have some problems with greens. I wish it would dry for me better. I think if I would go with Ampersand Pastel board, it would take excess of oils in and make my work easier... but I didn't. Will have to deal with what I have.

My blog is year old! Happy Anniversary!

Christ, The Saviour. 5 x 7" Delica bead tapestry.

With all that commotion we have in our house with new born puppies I totally forgot about the fact that my blog just turned one year old!

Looking behind I see my first try-outs with oil pastel and with soft pastel indeed. It is good to see the difference that this year has made. Looking forward to next wonderful year of painting!...

So far here is a something totally new I want to share with you all.

So far I was painting, Irina was working on new design I made I just for her.
Few years ago we had an idea about starting with beaded tapestry on a loom and so here it is - our first "fruit of the loom".

This is a beaded copy of one of the oldest known icons of Christ in encaustic. Our version is done in Japanese Delica bead.

Now we are working on framing options etc. More will be coming. Stay tuned!

Water Lily #1 By Tatiana Myers. WIP.

"Water Lily" by Tatiana Myers. Oil Pastel.
16 x 20"Guessoed Masonite.
This painting will be one more work in my new floral; series of Oil pastel paintings. I'm trying new materials and techniques, learning something new every day...My next work, how you can see is a water lilies. It is biggest Oil pastel I have ever done, I'm very curious how this will work out. This time I'm working on gessoed masonite. I'm not very impressed with this support, and naturally had to put another layer of sanded ground on it, before starting this painting. Probably next time I'll go back to Ampersand hardboard or pastel board. Yes, it is more expensive, but quality is way superior to regular masonit. I tried some acrylic underpainting on this painting (also - first time). I did not like it. Too rough for my technique, but I will leave it this time how it is... probably next time will go back to gouache and gouache only. Works much better for me.

So here it is, little bit of gouache, some acrylics and Holbein Oil Pastels.

"Cove Creek" in Oil. WIP, update #1.

I tried to continue with painting what I started yesterday. It didn't get me very far. I'm working with Holbein Duo on guessed panel. Paint is still totally wet. Gesso is slippery just like that ice on our back yard, nothing works right. I will need to let it dry some more time, I don't think it will work any other way this time. I don't have a medium to speed up a drying time, so have to deal with what I have. Mean while I may get out those pretty samples of Italian panels I got not long time ago and try to work with one of those and see, if I like it.

"Koi Pond" is finished.

Yes, I'm done with this fish after all... almost forgot about this fact!

"Cove Creek" in Oil. WIP

This evening I wanted to try something simple. So I took an old subject and my box of Holbein "Duo" oils and started one more painting of Cove Creek from the same reference I did before in Pastel.
I went as far as underpainting and will let it sit till tomorrow (I hope). Then if we will have time after all that snow shoveling, I may continue.

"Peonies" by Tatiana Myers. Oil Pastel. Finished.

"Peonies" by Tatiana Myers. Oil Pastel.
11x14" Ampersand Hard Board.

This work, how some of you may remember, was my Oil Pastel DEMO for

gallery "Art and Soul", what I did late January. Naturally this kind of work couldn't be finished during one demo session, so I had to finish it in my studio.

Now I'm glad to say"I'm done!"

"Koi Pond" Oil Pastel WIP by Tatiana Myers. Next to finished.

"Koi Pond" by Tatiana Myers. Oil Pastel WIP.

I'm geting so close with this Koi... I feel just some more touch-ups and I'm going to call it finished. Maybe even tonight. Also I'm going to frame it the same way as I did my self-portrait. For once I'll use mat and not a spacers.

I think with more room around this painting is looking better, so it will be mat this time.

Yesterday I finished my drawing and shadowing of Veronika's portrait. Also - started working on watercolor part. That part so far looks scary to me. But I'm going to post it here soon anyway. For right now I better go to my Oil Pastel floral work. Need to finish that one first.

New portrait project.WIP. Part 1.

This is my latest portrait drawing. Actually it will be a watercolor after I'm done with it, but I may try the same subject in oil and pastel. Pretty good for practicing.

Once again it is Veronika, my niece. Portrait from my own photo reference that survived latest hard drive disaster... All best photos are gone. I should be made, I guess, but I better just move on with my stuff that be upset over something what is not here any more.
