30 Pastels in 30 Days. Day 2.

4,5 x 6" Pastel on U-art sanded paper.

Second day of my participation in 30x30 painting challenge.

My goal is to work on small color/value studies (like this one)

and occasionally finish some bigger pieces if possible.

Painting #2 is very familiar to me subject,

I painted this reference before in both - oils and pastels.

However I didn't try this extreme reddish/purple palette.

I have to admire - I like it.

This work is  available at DPW auction.

Already looking forward to Day #3.

Need to find a good subject to play with.

2-nd Floor Gallery Featured artist show.

Today we with Irina made it to 2-nd Floor Gallery and did photo-shoot of my  show.

Terry did a great job with organizing of my paintings, I'm very pleased how everything is look like.

We have another two weeks till show reception. Just enough time to print out new business card etc.

My next project has to be done for demonstration of Egg Tempera painting for Franklin County Art Alliance, Chambersburg, PA this upcoming Wednesday, May 12. 

I'm gathering some materials and information for this demo and also trying some new support for egg tempera miniature. It is a first time when I'm working with this paint on Aquaboard. I think I like it for this kind of painting. Not sure it would work for portrait or smaller miniature,

because of texture of the board.

MASF 35-th International Miniature Art Show 2010.

I just got an acceptance letter from MASF stating that 3 of my miniature pastels were accepted for upcoming International Juried miniature art show that will run from January 17 to February at Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art. 7. Getting into MASF 2010 was my target goal for this year and... Woo-Hoo!....

Just some more details on how "Blue Clematis" is coming along. This is fragment of painting with the central flower. This photo is bigger, then actual size of painting.

Clematis. Oil pastel WIP.

I finished my first layer of OP. I always starting in with OP sticks and silicon shapers, so far I don't have all grown covered. Sometimes I go right away with second layer - same method - sticks and shapers. 

After I'm done with that, I'm switching to solvent and brushes and here it becomes more oil painting, then anything else.. This is a more delicate stage and takes longer time, because often I have to wait till solvent will almost dry, before I can continue.

This is exactly a part what I'm up to with this work right now- brush and solvent. Not finished yet, but getting there.

Gouache underpainting.

I'm working on a twin-painting to little Oil Pastel "Pansies" I just finished last week. Second painting will be a Blue Clematis. Same size, same frame. I think they will look very nice together side-by-side with my first one. 

Often I do underpainting for OPs in oil pencils. This is what I did for pansies. Clematis, however, will have a gouache underpainting (Caran-D-Ache and Art Spectrum). Picture what you see here is underpainting ONLY, before I started with actual Oil Pastel.

I think when it will be finished, it will be very beautiful.

Ampersand Museum Series Pastel Board

Holbein and Sennelier Oil Pastel.

This small painting I painted for two reasons. First I was asked not long time ago, can I do something small in Oil Pastel with preserving all details. Secondly, I'm currently preparing some works for local Small Paintings group show, so I want to have few new paintings done, what will sort of stand out... Miniature in oil pastel is pretty unusual combination, so i went for it. I wouldn't call this painting real "miniature " for the reason: most of the time it is not only size of painting, but scale of painting 1:6. This one is questionable, if we will come to the scale part. However it is definitely small art work, one of the smallest OPs I ever done and I like it. Let see what others have to say.

Oh, yes, forgot to mention the fact: it is a smaller version of bigger painting I did earlier from the same reference. Different format too.

I just finished one more tempera painting. Like usually I have a feeling that need to work about another week to have it done, but.. probably I don't have to. This time I have few WIP pictures, that could make it somewhat more interesting.

Chambersburg 25th Annual Miniature Art Exhibition 2009.

Today we got more good news. Two of my miniature paintings were accepted at Chambersburg 25th Annual Miniature Art  Juried Exhibition 2009 at Council for the Arts of Chambersburg.

This year show received 392 entries from 120 artists, however gallery can only accept 180 works, because of space issues. So I'm very pleased to see that my work will be included at this show. 

I'm planning to attend opening reception on November 5-th and very much looking forward to see some great paintings there. So exiting!

Just like I planned, I finished this miniatures today. I used some extra soft pastels, some pastel pencils, silicon color shapers, solvent and size "0" sable brush to put my finishing touches on this work. here she is - another soft pastel miniature.

Worked today some more with my fall mini. It is getting to be more and more painting, not a drawing.

I like how colors are coming and mixing together, almost like oil.

Pastels are using on this one are mostly my softest pastels: Schmincke , Sennelier and Kooh-I-Noor.

Since it is so small I might need another painting session to finish it, but not this night. Too late, good time to go to bed.

This one I started last evening, just to take a brake from my swamp, and read what Adrianna has to say about it and think a little bit...

It will be another miniature painting, reference photo for it taken last fall, since I wanted to so something very bright and colors aren't just here yet...

So, here it is. It is small, bright, I'm trying some new tricks on branches... very interesting experiment. 

Should finish this one soon, but swamp will be, probably my first one to finish.

Done just right on time for the show! maybe will take another photo tomorrow, before we will frame it. Midnight is not the best time for picture taking! :-)

Worked some more with my tempera painting this night.  Most attention  I payed  to layering of  grass, rocks and did some minor work on trees.

Also I was playing  with  framing options. Thank you, Todd for nice little frames you made!
