News on "Constellation".

I was informed last week that my painting"Constellation" (oil)
will be included at Richeson-75 "Still Life and Florals 2014"
hard-covered book among other meritorious entries.
It didn't make it in a show this time, but was chosen for publishing.

"Radiance", oil, finished.

"Radiance", Oil,
11 x 14" on panel.

Finally I had time to get back to this piece and finish it. It is all bight and shiny and so had to dry before I can get any good picture of it. Still... it is finished. And I'm not sure what I'll be up to next.. I have two nice 8x8" cradled Gessobords... Maybe I need to thing what I can do with those...

This and that...

Yesterday I got to work on two totally different paintings.
First I finished another color glaze on my Hibiscus.
This is getting close to be done now, but still not finished.
A bit later I got to my pastels and did this quick study of Big Sur coast-line.
This is to try out relatively-new for me painting surface
called Multimedia Artboard Pastel.
Those ultra-light panels are made of composite of paper fibers and resin.
Very light, but extremely durable, those panels are one of the latest news on
market. I tried them first during our recent workshop with Bill Creevy
and I have to say- I'm impressed with this new surface.
Study below is available at Daily Paintworks.

"Radiance". Work in Progress, oil.

Yes, I'm started working one one more "Flemish style" traditional Oil painting. And this one is another Hibiscus. Hibiscuses are not my favorite flowers, however they somehow turned to be some of my very favorite floral subjects. Maybe just because those are spectacular to show play of light and shadows...
Never-less I'm working on one more of those and up to date mostly done with underpainting stage. it will be more likely one more session to finalize it. Then I'll need to make sure it properly dried and can start with color glazing. Beautiful process, almost similar to meditation. I truly enjoy it.
meanwhile this is drying I'm going to do something not that technically complicated...
If you are interested to see how this floral painting is progressing, check back later.
I'll post my progress report here!...

"Tears on Red", oil.

"Tears on Red", 12 x 12"
Oil on Ampersand Gessobord.

One more in my new for 2013 series of Still Life Flemish-style paintings in Oil.
This painting was more about contrast and play of light, what gave me opportunity
to play with limited pallet. I'm pretty sure I'm done with this one now.

Flemish technique in progress. New 6 x 6 " floral series.

This is my new project what I'm going to stretch from 2012 to 2013.
I will be working on several small florals what will employ so called
"Flemish technique" of Oil painting.
I will be using flat panels, more suitable highly detailed work.

Above - beginning stage. Outlines of future painting transferred to the board
and over-drawn with India ink. Ink drawing then sealed with Imprimatura layer.

After all of above dried, I'm working on foundation of my future painting
and using just one color of paint. Traditionally it is a burnt Umber.
It may take two of more applications, all depends of complexity
of future painting. for this one It was two Umber layers.

After Umber layer is dry it is time to start with so called "Dead Layer".
This layer is needed to establish half-tones of future painting.
It is my personal favorite stage.

Dead layer for my first painting is finished. After it will be totally dry
(patience, patience!) I will start with color glazes.
Mean while I will be working on several next paintings in the same style.
One is drying, another one is in progress... this is whole idea.
In interested, check back soon!
