"Orchid". Small pastel painting.

"Orchid"
7 x 5" Pastel on Ampersand Pastel Board.

This one I did "just because". Mostly Girault pastels and some colored pencils.
Little fun work, nothing more. But I like the look of it with it's new frame.

"Summer Poppies" is finished!

"Summer Poppies"
14 x 11", Oil  and Oil Pastel on Ampersand  board.

Oil base is finally dry and I had an opportunity to finish my work with some touch-up of Oil pastel. Now I'll have all possible fun with varnishing (what I normally do not do with Oil Pastels), so it will be something new to try. Hopefully it will work out.

"Iris Glow" pastel.

"Iris Glow" by Tatiana Myers 10 x 8".

Pastel on RTX Pastelboard.

Small painting just to try out new pastel board... and new set of Girault pastels!
Started yesterday late evening, finished this afternoon. Good board. Great pastels. I was going to do much bigger painting from this very reference in Oil Pastels. Probably I will do it anyway. But so far I enjoyed my "softies".

"Summer Poppies" AKA "Secret Garden"

"Summer Poppies"
14 x 11", Oil on Ampersand  board.

With this mess of poppies taking so long I have no idea. Yes, I like it with Oil pastel. I'm terrified to use spray fixative on it, but I'm going to do it. And?of maybe some Golden varnish too.

"Summer Poppies", more progress.

"Summer Poppies"
14 x 11", Oil on Ampersand  board.

Not really... speaking of "progress part".  :-) However I think I got an idea... I'm GOING to finish it with Oil pastel (Neo-Pastel from Caran D'Ache) and then try to fix it with caran D'Ache fixative for Oil Pastels. Here we go!.. Something new to try. (Where is my spray after all? I placed my order a week ago!)

"Summer Poppies", Oil WIP.

"Summer Poppies"
14 x 11", Oil on Ampersand  board.

And another busy day. And not like I moved to far with this painting. Of course I'm going to catch up some more this night, but not much.  I like to keep it very simple this time. Not much of precise drawing. Not much of ANY drawing. Just one brush for everything. Very relaxing work. Just what I need this days.

"Summer Poppies" Oil WIP.

"Summer Poppies"
14 x 11", Oil on Ampersand  board.

Last night worked some more on my painting... Not much. My young bitch schnauzer was about to have her puppies, therefore it was whole night of watching... She finally started this morning and we almost got some sort of normal sleep.

Back to those poppies... I starting truly enjoy that mess of green leaves on this painting, not so much flowers... With all my love to Holbein Oils, I don't think I have the correct red in my set and I'm not up to much of a mixing now... just working with what I have. I'm using just about 9 tubes... I think. And most of the time it is just enough. For this painting I have out black and white paints, two shades of green - light and dark, two shades of red (none is correct red), yellow, brown and blue. Brown and blue are for mixing of dark value. Black - for making it even darker, if needed. The rest is pretty much self-explanatory.

I'm also using brown pastel pencil for sketching and trying to paint by little segments, starting approximately from the middle of board. I don't know what my final composition will be at this point... I sort of trying to keep it flowing free and just go with the flow... this is how it is working the best anyway.

I'm also straggling in between two ideas - leave this work just like it is - in oil, OR finish it with Oil Pastel. Tempting, very tempting! But probably I'll just leave it to be an oil and save myself some glass and spacers.

The last two days of workshop were demo of Portrait painting Greg did for us and then everybody was heaving "fun" with own projects.
Two beautiful projects (our models) had enough courage to put up with all of us trying to do our best what at beginning was looking pretty scary (at my own case anyway!). Once again, I didn't finish my work, I seriously need more time and more practice. However it was a great experience, I learned a lot and our group had some very good time straggling all together. It was real fun, even all it was - bunch f hard work for everybody.
Thank You, Greg!
Thank You our models and thank you to all my friends from CPPS. It was a best week what I had for long, long time.

Missed the second day of workshop, oh well... I still have one more chance to work on my Still Life on the Third Day. Everybody was painting like crazy... Lots of different styles, lots of beautiful paintings... Mine is only half-way done. Will have to finish it later on at my home-studio. Not a problem. Tomorrow we are starting work on Portraits. And... surprise!... My niece Veronika will be on of our models!

Yesterday on meeting of our Pastel Society Greg did wonderful little DEMO of his wet/dry technique of painting Still Life.
Today we learned more and tried to work on own paintings...
Not something I would do every day... but I sort of like it!
(Sure I like Greg's own paintings, I'm not so sure if this style is a something I personally comfortable with for paintings of my own.)

Above - beginning of my work on today's Still Life.
