"Trinity", WIP, first update.

Today I'm starting with Oil Pastel application. Trying to keep
place organized and quantity of paints/tools to the minimum.
Of course monitor is one of main tools. beside of that I need
selection of colors I'm going to use, some brushes and solvent.
This time I'm working with Gamsol.

Above - Oil Pastel and solvent application of background.
Also - work on vase.
Nothing is done with flowers yet.
Below - fragment of painting at this stage.

On my last picture today I demonstrate beginning of Oil Pastel application
on my flowers. I normally start from my darkest darks and brightest brights
to establish value relationships and make my pick of just right pastel sticks.

Bufalo study. Oil.

"Legend of Yellowstone."
8 x 10"  Oil on panel.

On our way from Yellowstone to Teton National Park we got to met huge herd of buffalo. Crowds of  magnificent animals were roaming across of the valley, across of the highway and didn't care a bit about us, humans around and any of tour transportation needs. Traffic  had to stop for a while... except for bison traffic!.. Even we lost some time and returned to Jackson very late, I got hundreds and hundreds of pictures of those hundreds and hundreds of buffalo. It was amazing experience what I hope will result in several future paintings. This is just first small study I did the other day. Oil sticks and oil with Liquin on panel.

International Artist magazine publication.

This is what I found in my mail box just yesterday.
What can I say?... Nice! I always had a good feeling about my painting "Iris Garden"and was hoping that one day it will be show, where this my work will earn its recognition. Not because it is better then others, but just because it is simply  beautiful work. And at my opinion beauty  - this is what art should be about. Brining light to the human's soul, making us better, creating some mysterious link between the Sky and the Earth... This is how I see purpose of any good art work. If this is how painting makes me feel - I know it was successful painting.

Longwood Garden's Orchids. Oil Pastel WIP. Update #1.

"Longwood Garden's Orchids"
Oil Pastel 14 x 11" WIP.
Just some more work what i did today. Mostly leaves and also some background. I'm slightly disappointed with the fact that my order for an oil paint what finally arrived didn't have the crimson of right color what i need for my ruby bowel... I guess I have to continue my quest for acceptable ruby-red paint and so far I'm still looking, work on this painting. What is not such a bad idea after all... But i still need my paint!

"Majesty". Oil Pastel on Canvas Board. Finished!

"Majesty".
12 x 16"  Oil  Pastel on canvas board

I was very not happy with my Oil pastels and this board, because of length of drying time and not enough adhesion to support... But I finished it, let it plenty of time to dry and put 3 coats of Golden varnish on it. I think experiment with varnish was very successful. So after all it was not totally wasted time and art supply. I will do another one on canvas only this time will put another primer over regular gesso. Hopefully it will make my work more easy and enjoyable.

Oil & Oil Pastel landscape WIP. Update.

14 x 11"  Oil & Oil Pastel on board.

I still working on this painting. Now it is Oil Pastel over Oil underpainting. Sort of nice. I'm using different solvent too. Instead of Liquin it is Gamsol nnow. Like it. Still have a way to go.

Some updates on Blossom show.

Today I finished re-framing of "Awakening" before shipping it down to FL. I love this new frame, it is just what I wanted for this painting. Still need to pack it, label it and tomorrow out it goes. It will be a first time when i have to ship out one of my bigger paintings (other then miniature), what makes me worry a little. I should see it again next month during our trip to Naples to see the reception of

"Majesty".Oil Pastel on canvas board. WIP.

"Majesty".
12 x 16"  Oil  Pastel on canvas board

Just another something I'm currently working on. I'm giving a test to new solvent (Gamsol) and Canvas Board what I normally do not use for my oil pastels. I'm not sure yet how I like it - combination of OPs, this particular support and solvent, but some things are working better then others. I'm not very happy with drying process, canvas board is not very absorbing. But I'll make final judgment when I'm finished with it. So far have to let it dry and go back to my roses.

"Temptations and Innocence" in Soft Pastel and Oil Pastel.

I finished my PastelMat roses and gave it a name what fits it to perfection in my understanding...
I call it "Temptations and Innocence"- combination of light and dark roses.
Now I'm back to "Innocence" part  and starting another painting from the same reference and this time in Oil pastel. Oil pastel version will be bigger and will NOT have red roses as part of composition. It also will be slightly bigger - 16 x 16". I'm using Ampersand Encausticbord for this work and will attempt to do
no-glasing conservation option . Pretty existing new project!

"Royal Purple"Egg Tempera WIP. Update #2

"Royal Purple" by Tatiana Myers

14 x 11".  Egg Tempera and ink on Aquabord.

It is just not so purple I though it will be... No right pigment, I guess?... However now I don't have any white spaces with board showing any more... what is a BIG progress. Needfully to mention, I never had tempera of this size done before and it is complicated (for me, I know some gurus will consider this size as "complicated") and somewhat slow... Of course I was busy with other things last few day and didn't paint too much. And today I more likely will be working on side show for DPP blog, but hopefully I will have some extra time to work on this one too...

"Irises" Oil Pastel 20 x 16", Pastelbord. WIP

"Irises" Oil Pastel 20 x 16", Pastelbord.

So far I'm mostly working on background. there are few things I do not like on original photo, so I just keep re-painting it.... And painting it over again... and again... I hope it is getting better, it is all I have to say (Usually backgrounds come to me easy. this one is a great exclusion.)

"Irises" Oil Pastel 20 x 16", Pastelbord.

Finished first layer of painting. It looks somewhat solid now.  I need to wait a little and then start concentrating on those extra layers and details. Time for brush work, some shadows and all that fun parts.

More Irises... Oil Pastels WIP.

Yes, this is right - more irises!
I'm using the same ref. photo I used before for soft pastel painting I did earlier this month ( I think it was thins month anyway, but perhaps it might be August).
This will be one of bigger works 20 x 16". I'm not using any underpainting for this one, just drawing and filling with color. Also I'm trying to utilize some of my harder Oil pastels Craypass Specialist. I love their colors, but didn't like it much when I tried them on paper... However they do fine on pastelbord. What is a good thing and will safe for me some of my Holbeins.
I should be working on some miniatures instead, but... It just ain't working for me. Wrong time maybe?...

"Summer Poppies" AKA "Secret Garden"

"Summer Poppies"
14 x 11", Oil on Ampersand  board.

With this mess of poppies taking so long I have no idea. Yes, I like it with Oil pastel. I'm terrified to use spray fixative on it, but I'm going to do it. And?of maybe some Golden varnish too.

"Spots of Attitude" Oil Pastel. Finished!

"Spots of Attitude" by Tatiana Myers
20 x 16". Oil Pastel on Ampersand Pastel Board.

I'm done, done done, so done with this cat! (Or this cat is so done with me... I'm not even sure). Anyway... it is ready, framed and hanging on my wall. ready to go to gallery at the end of this month. And I still have another two weeks to come up with some other ideas. I'm not sure it will be another something as big as this one. i just may not have enough time to finish it.

"Spots of Attitude" Oil Pastel WIP.

"Spots of Attitude" by Tatiana Myers
20 x 16". Oil Pastel on Ampersand Pastel Board.

Building up new layers of Oil pastel is similar to almost sculpturing of your painting. I totally enjoy the process, but still need to remember about my time lines.
