Very hot days making everything harder and slow... Yet, I still working at nights and moving along with my painting. I hope to have it finished by next weekend, but not sure if I have enough time. Whatever. It will be finished one day (more likely - "one night').

My latest project, WIP is an animal portrait. Very challenging for me, not because of an animal, but because of its size. My comfort zone used to be somewhat around 8x10" and/or smaller, but I'm in need of few bigger works for gallery representation. So I decided to give it a try. Portrait of Jaguar. Not sure yet, how I'll call this painting when it is finished.

This is a picture I was hunting for several weeks this spring.. There is a place at Wildwood park where swampy marsh is meeting with open water covered with Water Lilies. Those pretty little things were staying closed every time I go to see them. But one day I got lucky. Place looked picture perfect and I took numerous reference photos and painter "Waterway" after one of those shots. 

Gouache underpainting, mixed pastels and pastel pencils.

Finished my painting. Mostly happy with it beside of few minor details. However will have to work with photos. Colors and focus are slightly off. I can do better then that.

My latest work is going to be Still Life in pastel. This time I'm using Pastel Mat for support and totally love it. I started my drawing in charcoal and going to do some work on values before starting with full color. I'm using 3 colors of charcoal: dark black, medium gray and white.

Oil Pastel is winning again!

   I just found out that my Oil pastel "Peonies" was awarded first place at spring Flowers and Gardens all-media show at

"2-nd Floor Gallery" Mechanicsburg, PA!

It wasn't a juried show, but people choice voting. Thank you everybody for this honor and your recognition of my work!

It was one more busy day, but this painting is finished. Just as I planned. I feel both works (this one and "Lights and reflections") should look good together and it was my main idea. Time to move to another project.

Today I started another pastel painting after our trip to Fort Hunter with our Plein Air group of artists.

Unfortunately I had no time to do Plein Air. Fortunately I had just enough time for some great looking reference photos.

This painting going to be a companion painting to "Lights and Reflections" and part of my show at 2-nd Floor Gallery. I'm generally thinking about working on series of painting "Creeks of Pennsylvania", and this is a very beginning of it.

So far I'm only done with underpainting in water-media, next step will be actual work with pastels. Very exiting!

I have few nice reference shots of Clematis. After I painted "Blue Clematis" I always had wish to do some more... and probably something bigger too. Finally I'm giving it a try and this one will be Purple Clematis in egg tempera. So far so good, but few oopses with black ink.
