This is all fault of Dianna and her wonderful Still Life paintings. I never ever though I will turn to something like THAT, called "Still Life". Always was considering it like something awfully boring... And here I came across of works of Dianna Ponting  and it gave me vision of very new dramatic perspective on Simple Objects Of Everyday Live.

And this is all what Dianna's works are about - classical realism, sometimes close to photorealism, play of lights and shadows and dramatic...

So I decided to give it a try, and this will be my first Still Life ever. Original reference photo - courtesy of Dianna Ponting. 

Lady Bug, the Morgan. WIP. (started 3/31/09, finished 12/27/09)

Last summer I went to our friends farm where we are keeping our horses and took few hundreds of pictures once again... My favorite one at that day happened to be a portrait of Lady Bug, young Morgan mare, posing for me perfectly on a background of majestic blue mountains. I loved her head shot so much then soon after did my first painting of her in mixed media an now returned to the same reference photo to try it in Oil Pastels. First I did a quick painting with Erengy on watercolor paper, just to worm up before serious work; and then started my painting on Colourfix with Holbein OPs.

  I used Art Spectrum and some Caran D'Ache gouache for underpainting and very little amount of Walnut Hollow pencils for small details.

As usually when it comes to the sky of water, I had to use some Sennelier OPs, because at my opinion they are most suitable for it. Also for details I'm going to use a wash of Neopastels, but I'm not up to that point yet.

Do not pay any attention to her eyes and ears, it is nearly not finished, mostly just an underpainting. :-)

And after few month right before new year I went back to finish some of my old works, including this one. So here is Lady Bug. Finished after all.

 

 

Sakura Carre pastels..."Irish Landscape" Reworked.

Over this week I went trough some of my older works and took a fresh look at them. Some went to trash, others... I just wanted to play some more with those... Like this one. Originally it was done in Sakura Carre pastels. Today I tried to work it over with some soft brands as Terry Ludwig and Schimncke. Then I had to spray it with fixative. Here is two paintings to compare.

I did some more changes to this painting. Here is a final version.

Last days before Christmas...

Last days before Christmas in our house consisted of one big Chaos.

My new computer broke, my not so new car broke, our bank had some glitch, so my account looked scary and neighbor's van got stuck on our driveway, so nobody can get in and out. How about that ?!..

So... not much painting was going on. All I did some sketches on Canson (just to get rid of that paper). I adore brave people that can work with pastels on Canson. I'm not a one of them. All my sketches are intended for the trash, but I took a picture of it anyway...

And lastly and most impotently, Jim also participated in drawing and came up with this one you can see on very top of my post. It was glued with some Scotch tape to the gun box. Yes, sure, I got one more gun for my endless collection. This time - with my husbands art on it.

Ladies, you are welcome to get envious!

I'm planning to do probably few more of small paintings and sketches of this bridge, before getting to the bigger one, (16x20" or so) what probably will be my future show work for 2010.

Gouache underpainting, Pastel, Pastel pencils.

They usually call this type of things "on my easel". Well, this one is not on my easel, but right on my table on drawing board. Idea is to pains an old barn all covered with show... And once again  I'm a little bit out of my comfort zone for the several reasons:

1) I'm working with gouache underpainting for soft pastel... never done it before. (Don't know how it will work out, hopefully it will. I'm not about to spoil good board.)

2) I do not do buildings. This is a BARN. What is a building. (Scary part.)

3) I do not paint winter. This is my first ever white landscape. With a barn. (Twice as scary!)

I hope I'll get over it and finish it all right. I'm starting to like it.

I'm using Caran D'Ache and Art Spectrum Gouache in very limited pallet and some of Holbein pastels. On this stage you can partially see underpainting and partially - first layer of pastel.

Painted this one yesterday evening. More likely this one will go to Lyn O'Neal at her newly re-opened gallery Art & Soul . (Of course at case if Lyn likes it). Reference photo for this painting taken sometime this summer just behind of our horse barn, where our family is boarding our too beloved and spoiled Morgans. I love the farm field and beautiful blue mountains around... Scary to think that someday all that beauty could be taken over by one more ugly suburban development.

And this one is my #2 in Palet Knife series... I used total of 10 colors to paint this. Should be a landscape. Somebody see landscape, or it is a fish again ?!... Supposed to be a mountains and rhododendrons.  It is going to dry for me forever and ever...

First Acrylics with knife.

This evening I did something totally "not me" like. I needed to work on my Oil Pastel, but it was too much commotion, I couldn't even concentrate at all... So I took old canvas panel (that thing was sitting around for years) and 6 pack of acrylics, what came with my table easel and also would otherwise sit around forever... And a palette knife what I'm using for mixing up my tempera paint. Here is results of it... I see there mountains and Valley full of wild flowers... husband sees the ocean and school of red fish here... :-)
